Akshay Kumar's Padman trailer out: Move over Superman and Batman, make way for the real superhero

"America ke paas Superman hai, Batman hai, SpiderMan hai. Lekin India ke paas Padman hai" - the much-awaited trailer ofTwinkle Khanna's maiden production, Padman, tells the story of real-life superhero Arunachalam Muruganantham, the brainchild behind the world's first low-cost machine for making sanitary napkins.
But Padman's journey was not an easy one, and Akshay Kumar brings this alive on celluloid. His wife, played by Radhika Apte, sums up the general rural mindset about menstruation when she says, "Hum auraton ke liye bimaari se marna sharm ke saath jeene se behtar hai."
Padman is ostracised and almost loses his wife, but it does not break his determination. It is Sonam Kapoor who comes as an angel in disguise and helps him in his journey to the finish.
Through the Padman journey, Akshay Kumar has had wife Twinkle Khanna by him. Twinkle is the person who convinced Muruganantham to share his story with the world.
Back in 1998, Muruganantham fought social stigma and derision and finally developed the low-cost sanitary napkin machine. Today, the machine is installed in 23 states in India and brought about a revolution in the country. And now, Akshay Kumar's audience will be able to see their hero as India's Padman.
Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to share the trailer. "This one's for the mad ones, the ones who are crazy enough to change the world," he wrote.

Directed by R Balki, Padman is set to hit the theatres on January 26, 2018.
