Everyone who has a soul loves traveling and all the adventure associated with it, but if you are someone like me who survives on chillers you may have a hard time planning a trip. What if I told you that you can go on a vacation without making huge compromises? Mind = blown, right? Well, here are top 10 ways you can travel on a shoe-string budget.
1) Plan your vacation months in advance.
Unfortunately, we cheap travelers do not have the luxury of impromptu plans. Planning out your vacation in advance enables you to cut cost in many ways, and plan your day according to your budget. So pull out your notebook and start scribbling your itinerary.
2) Look for discounts while booking your hotel
The only thing Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt have taught is to always look for discount wherever you can find. Sure, we cannot afford a 5-star hotel, but if you get a 3-star on 20% off that’s not a bad deal right? Make sure you book your hotel months in advance to get the cheapest rate.
3) Choose your method of transportation carefully.
Compare all the options you have like a bus, train, motorcycle, bullock-cart, etc. In most cases, bus or a train are very economical, but if you can stretch your budget a little there’s nothing better than a motorcycle ride to a beautiful location.
4) Pack as much as homemade food as you can.
The most major expense while traveling is the food. In any part of India, a meal for two is at least going to cost you Rs. 500. You can save up on this expense by carrying home cooked food, granted it won’t last that long, but it will save you at least a thousand rupees.
5) Control your inner shopaholic
Most of the souvenirs at tourist places are overly expensive, no matter how hard you bargain. Spend some time visiting different shops in the market to get the best deal; you will also be able to explore the city this way.
6) Eat where the locals eat
Just like many shops, restaurants are also ridiculously overpriced and not that authentic. Chat-up with few locals and see where they eat. You will find the most delicious and authentic cuisine there without burning a hole in your pocket.
7) Walk as much as you can.
This applies only if you are taking a bus or a train. Traveling to different places in a tourist location is a major pain-in-the-ass! It is either too expensive *cough* Goa *cough* or too dangerous. If you can’t afford a taxi, go for the local transport, if it’s not available hitchhike or walk!
8) Avoid going to places that are known to be expensive.
The sole purpose of your trip is to relax on a budget. You don’t need to bar-hop to do that.
9) Persuade your friends to come along with you
The more people you take, the less expensive will be the cost of the trip. Yes, managing everything might be a headache and may end up leaving the group-chat a couple of times, but if you pull it off you’ll be able to enjoy an amazing vacation with your friends.
10) Always buy your return ticket in advance.
The last thing you want is to be stuck at an unknown place with no money. This isn’t Jab We Met, so make sure you buy your return ticket well in advance or keep aside the money for fuel if you’ll be taking your bike.
So how were these ways? Will you try them next time?
